Islay is famous for its bird watching holidays and here at Islay Cottages, we offer the option of guided birding trips or self-guided walking holidays. The stunning island of Islay boasts some of the best bird watching in Scotland. With over 100 species present on the island, year-round it is an ideal destination for the avid bird watcher. From Eider Ducks to Golden Eagle’s, Islay has it all.
Our little Island is renowned across Europe for our enormous variety of bird life – home to numerous species of raptors. On any typical birding tour, you may well see eagles and hen/cock harriers. And don’t let the weather chase you away… Winter is one of the most beautiful times to visit! From October onwards the skeins of barnacle and white-fronted geese also arrive creating spectacular winter flights in the morning and evening.
