The stunning island of Islay boasts some of the best bird watching in Scotland. With over 100 species present on the island, year-round it is an ideal destination for the avid bird watcher. From Eider Ducks to Golden Eagle’s, Islay has it all.

Our little Island is renowned across Europe for our enormous variety of bird life – home to numerous species of raptors. On any typical birding tour, you may well see eagles and hen/cock harriers. And don’t let the weather chase you away… Winter is one of the most beautiful times to visit! From October onwards the skeins of barnacle and white-fronted geese also arrive creating spectacular winter flights in the morning and evening.

And if you fancy joining a guided walk through Loch Gruinart to see some of the variety of birdlife that inhabits the island you can join one. From the 4th of April to 31st October guided walks are available every Thursday costing £5 for non-members and £3 for members.

Our accommodation

Each of our Islay self-catering holiday cottages offers island maps and routes to help you make the most of your stay. Our team is also always on hand should you need any further guidance or help on your birding excursions.

Accommodation options vary from group holidays for up to 10 people at our luxurious Kilchoman house, to a cosy little cottage sleeping up to 4 people, complete with log fire.
