Things to do while staying at Kilchoman House Cottages

RSPB led walk during Walk Islay, our annual walking week held in AprilKilchoman House Cottages are an ideal place to stay whatever your requirements, be it for bird watching, (RSPB Loch Gruinart reserve is only a 10 minute drive away and day tours birdwatching are available from Islay Birding), general wildlife on Islay, walking, cycling, visiting distilleries (8 on Islay & 1 on neighbouring Jura), playing golf (on the famous 18 hole links course at Machrie), or if you really want, just come to relax and enjoy our peaceful situation, the choice is yours.

During the summer months, on a Wednesday, there is the opportunity to take a day trip to Colonsay, one of our adjacent islands, while Jura can be visited from Port Askaig dailly. The cottages are designed for all year round occupancy with open fires, electric central heating along with double glazing and all are comprehensively equipped throughout and have satellite TVs. Apart from Islay’s many outdoor pursuits, there is a 25m indoor swimming pool in Bowmore along with its’ fitness suite.

Pony TrekkingIn Port Charlotte, there is the Islay Natural History Trust’s visitor centre and also the Museum of Islay Life, while over at Loch Gruinart, RSPB has a visitor centre and hide. They also have a further reserve at Kinnabus on the Oa near Port Ellen.

Pony trekking is available at Rockside Farm, close to Kilchoman House Cottages, or you can go to Ballivicar at Port Ellen.

The Machrie Golf course, a 18 hole links course is also over at Port Ellen, and a very challenging round awaits you there! There are several inland lochs, to test your patience should fly fishing be your hobby. For clay pigeon enthusiasts, Cultoon awaits your call!

Guided walks each week on both the RSPB resrves from April through to October, also walks led by the local Baptist Church.

Pony Trekking.  Ballivicar, Port Ellen and Rockside, Kilchoman

Enjoy our beautiful beaches, be it a sandy or a pebble strewn beach

Go for a walk, on one our many paths, or climb one our hills to take in the tremendous views all around. If you feel up to the challenge, try the Paps of Jura!

Take part in the Islay Half Marathon in August, or join in “Walkislay” in April

Visit nearby Colonsay on a Wednesday  ( April through to the end of October)
