Things to do on Islay, Scotland

To help you plan your activities during a stay at Islay Cottages, we’ve put together this guide to the best things to see and do on the island. Be sure to check our events calendar to find out what’s on while you’re here. From music festivals to whisky open days. There’s plenty going on throughout the year. If you’re visiting us in May, don’t forget to book your tickets for the annual Islay Festival, a celebration of Scottish whisky, music and traditions. And if you’re here in the autumn, look out for dates for the Islay Jazz Festival musical extravaganza!

Getting here

The island has its own airport and two ferry ports, so you can get here by air or water. Islay Airport is located five miles from Port Ellen and operates flights to and from Glasgow, Oban and Colonsay. There are ferry ports at Port Ellen and Port Askaig, both running Calmac ferry services from Kennacraig on the Kintyre Peninsua.
